A young father is only in charge for his child during the first year of the child's life.

Myth!

When someone becomes a father, no matter what age they have a responsibility to that child. Even if they are not married to the Mother by law he must pay child support until the child is 18 years old.

Always use contraception to make sure she can not become pregnant.

She can be on The Pill (but donít always take her word for it)

She can have an injection before sex from the doctors, or the doctor can give her many options to stay protected

Use a condom, itís your best but because then you know you were safe from getting her pregnant and from STDs

You can tell by looking at someone if they have a sexually transmitted disease (STD).

Myth!

You canít tell if someone has an STD by just looking at them, STDs often have no sign. 1 in 4 young people who have had sex have an STD. An STD is a disease spread by sex or any other sex acts, the person with the disease can give to someone else if they have sex. Some STDs can be treated by a doctor some cannot!
